The search is on. While we are not yet sure when the move from Los Angeles will happen, we are officially in pursuit of our next home town.
Last weekend we visited the beautiful town of Healdsburg in Sonoma County, where you can get a whole lot of country without a whole lot of bumpkin (just a little bumpkin, which is really cute.) Gorgeous vineyards roll endlessly from hillside to hillside and the food! Whether you are savoring Nonna’s Tomato-Brazed Chicken at Scopa or just grabbing a quick sandwich from the Dry Creek General Store, the cuisine is fresh, local and delicious.
Wine tasting rooms are on every block in town, along with chic shops like 14 Feet, where vintage furnishings and art by emerging locals are plentiful and well curated by Mike and Marne. Arboretum, an eco-conscious clothing store also made its way into my “pros” column, along with the Chai Tea Latte at The Flying Goat and the many gorgeous homes. (I am already dreaming of a little Edwardian fixer-upper I saw.)
Other perks include my college friend Carlisle, her husband (artist Ray Degischer) and their family business, Dragonfly Farm, where Carlisle and her mother Bonnie grow flowers, teach classes and create gorgeous arrangements. A small airport nearby has direct flights to Los Angeles, making it easy for me to get back for work whenever I need to and my parents are a mere 2 hours away in the Bay Area. Not too shabby.
We are already considering Healdsburg a top contender. Of course, we still have many places to consider…
